Perspective: the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point.
If we are to make this journey to the Land of Enough, then we have to know where we currently stand. We want to make wealth two-dimensional by just reducing it to sets of data, income and expenses. But the numbers alone fail to give us a right impression of the height, width, depth and position that our wealth and possessions truly take in our lives. We can begin to rightly assess when we look beyond the numbers by expanding our perspective to include the rest of the world; our neighbors and brothers and sisters. We must ask God to change our hearts by making the world’s poor more than just a number; even as shocking a number as it is: 40% of the people alive today live on less than $2.50 per day.
These posts on perspective are the starting point for the journey to the Land of Enough. Once we know our view point, we can begin to move toward our destination.
